Post-Op Days 12-16
Feel great – my chronic low-level anxiety (thanks to my hair problem) has become amazingly non-existent! Now when people “talk to my scalp” I just think “Yeah, wait until you see me in a few months!” I still have scabs on my scalp, but I’m not going to rush them. They will fall out when they fall out. I have been using pure Vitamin E oil on my donor area and it seems to be healing beautifully. Also, I have been consistent with Dr. Jones Scalp Treatment morning and night. I have been using Toppik to cover my problem area, but I’m not sure how I feel about it. It seems to sit on my scalp no matter how careful I am to shake it onto the hair and pat it down. The idea behind Toppik is that it’s supposed to cling to the hairs and fill in the gaps so the scalp is less visible and the hair seems fuller. I guess it’s better than not using any cover-up because my hair is very dark and my scalp is very white.

Post-Op Days 17- forward
From what I’ve been told and what I’ve read, I am almost half-way to the time when I will be able to see some new growth. That will definitely be a defining moment in my life. I have taken some pictures as of the 1 month mark. They are taken without the Toppik that I use before I go outside. I think I see noticeable shock loss, especially on one side of centre. One thing I can report is that I used Ojon hair treatment one night because my hair felt really dry and my scalp tight. For some reason, it really irritated my scalp so I’ll lay off the Ojon for a while. Otherwise I find it to be a great Canadian hair product line. May 13th, 2006 6 Weeks Post-Op
I can’t remember the last time I counted days like this. I have the weeks marked on my calendars. The excitement is overwhelming and yet I feel like I’m waiting for the baby to be born. What will the hair look like? Will I like it? Will everyone notice how great I look? Will I be able to style my hair beautifully? Will I stop being embarrassed at the hairdresser’s? Will I be out and about even more? Will I walk with my head high? You get the picture. The donor area is pretty feels almost completely healed when I run my palms over it, except for a couple of spots that still feel “pinchy” to the touch. The final area of numbness has just yesterday started to feel like the nerve endings are partially regrown. Great. When I run my hands through the transplant area, I can still feel quite a few hairs sticking up. No change to the look of my hair. I keep looking and looking and they don’t seem to be growing, but they are there. I’m having a little trouble with the Toppik cover up. At first it was very effective, but now it doesn’t seem to go on properly. In the morning it seems to do an okay job of covering up my thin area, and then through the day the Toppik turns into dots on my scalp. I don’t understand this and it can be very embarrassing. Will report again at around 8 Weeks Post-Op.
May 20th, 2006 7 Weeks Post-Op I can still feel grafts sticking up on my scalp. The only change to the look of my scalp is that I have developed a bit of an acne condition. I am told that this is a sign of growth.
May 28th, 2006 Here are some pictures from the 1 month mark. I wasn’t sure before, but I am now, that there has been shock loss. I see small areas where there has been up to 1.5” growth (front hairline and also near crown). The recipient area can still be very sensitive and there is still a patch of numbness, but it is smaller than my last report. Will report again after my 2-month checkup with Dr. Jones and staff.
