Scalp treatment products

Last September I was considering doing another transplant to fill in my crown area. Instead I thought to try using Propecia and my own scalp treatment product and shampoo. Here are the results after six months. I am going to continue this treatment for another 6 months and will keep you updated with photos.

All dressed up...

Every week I get comments about my hair getting thicker. This photo was taken just before our hospital annual charity auction. It's nice to get dressed up and not worry about your hair, Dr. Robert Jones

It's great to have hair!!!

The pictures speak for themselves, everyday I feel my hair thickening.
Two reasons NOT to get a hair transplant...
1. It cost a lot more for haircuts!
2. It's more difficult to get a tan on your head

Trichophytic closure works!! Hair growing in my scar!

Hello,
I am pleased to say that tricho closure works and my scar is difficult to find 5 months post-op as there is hair growing through it. I have attached a close up picture and would encourage anyone that is interested in taking a closer look, to come by the office and see for yourself. I have been very encouraged by this new closure technique and use it on every strip procedure now,

20 weeks post-op

Every day I feel like my hairline is a little fuller now. As you can see from the photos, my temporal angles are filling in nicely. I was off for a week in Holland (my mom is Dutch, she requested a trip home!) and reviewing the family trip photos, it was nice not to see any shine up on top.

16 weeks post-op

I'm now almost at 4 months and see new hairs sprouting every day!
I get regular comments from staff, patients and friends on how much thicker and fuller my hair looks. My scar has faded and is now difficult to see and find. We did the Tricho closure technique, so you can actually see the hairs growing through the scar. I'll update with photos including a close up of the scar in the next few days,

visiting Surgeons

I just recieved this photo from a visiting surgeon from Costa Rica, the fellow on the right. He was visiting at the same time as a doctor from Cyprus, on the left. The photo was taken about a month ago, my hair is a little thicker now!!

Go Pistons!

Made it down to see the Pistons win in Detroit yesterday.
What a great crowd of people in that city, a lot of fun!
Hopfully they will end up in the finals against the Suns so I can see Nash in action,

more hair discussion

Hello,
I've been lucky in that my hair started to grow at about 8 weeks. Most of the time it takes 12 or even 16 weeks before growth starts. I have been using my scalp formula, shampoo and conditioner, as well as eating as healthy as possible. I am a health food nut, eating at least 4 to 5 portions of fruit and vegetable daily, as well as "Go Lean" every morning. I'm off meat, but still eat fish. I have stopped eating all dairy, I just drink soya products from Whole Foods. I also excersise at least once a day, keeping as fit as I can.
All this healthy living has got to help!
I will update with photos in a couple of weeks,

More Hair

Hello,
Thanks for your patience. I am pleased to say, my shocklossed hair in regrowing and many new hairs are filling in and I feel alot of stubble breaking through. I am going to qualify for "patient of the month" next month. My daughter came home from University yesterday and one of the first things she said was"Dad, you have more hair!"
I've had a busy month, I ran the Big Sur Marathon on April 30th, I think it's one of the prettiest places on earth. The coastline is breathtaking. I've been doing lots of Yoga, and cheering on the Suns (now that the Raptors are out!). Hope to drive to Detrioit tomorrow to watch the Cleveland Detroit game. That was a real nail biter last nite for Detroit fans, I think they will take it back home tomorrow.
Planning on running the Ottawa marathon next weekend with my brother-in-law, and have signed up for the Chicago Marathon in October.
Please feel free to come by my office anytime if you are in the area to see my new growth. I has been a great experience to go through this procedure again. It will help me everyday at work discussing hair loss options with patients.

shockloss hair regrowing

At 2 months, my shocked hair is coming back in. My head feels perfectly normal at this stage with no numbness. The scar is a little tender to touch but I don't even know it is there most of the time. I am still running, and have just started my taper 2 weeks prior to my run. I feel great, in good shape and ready for my run on April 30th. My hair should start to grow in about 4 weeks time. I'll update with photos as it comes in,

Hello,
I'm just back from Costa Rica, we had a great time, it is a wonderful country with great people! I took some surfing lessons, I included one picture of me standing on the board!
I have included one photo of my head, I have had some shockloss but will see regrowth over the next month or so. I will keep updating with pictures as it grows in,

Dr. Jones, 3 1/2 weeks

I'm 3 and a half weeks post-op and just about to head off on holidays
so I thought I would write a quick update. The appearance hasn't really
changed in the last week or so. I always call this the waiting period.
I've had some shock loss and no new growth yet. A time to be patient. I
should start to see new growth and the shocked hair returning over the
next month. I still have some numbness on the top of my head and slight
tenderness of the scar. I expect this to pass over the next month or
two. It doesn't rally bother me.
At this point, I think the best thing is a little sun to the top of my
head.
I'll update when I get back,
Dr. Robert Jones

16 days post op

Hello,
I am now 16 days after my surgery. My activities are back to normal and have been for quite some time. I have posted a photo of the recipient site. I have had a bit of shock loss, but I know this will regrow over the next month or so. I have no more crusts or even scalp irregularity, as you can see from the close-up photo. I still have some numbness around the scar and on the top of my head, but it is getting better every day.
One poster asked what I used on a daily basis for my hair. I have started my new scalp treatment formula, shampoo and conditioner. It should be available through my site over the next few weeks. If you are interested in getting an announcement when it is available, sign up for my newsletter on the front page of my site.
I've started the hair loss book with my son, it's fun to put down into word the experiences I have had in the last 10 years in the hair loss industry,
Please keep the questions coming, I'm going on holidays the middle of next week, I'll try and do some pictures and post before I go.

day 10

I am now 9 days after my proceedure and feeling fine. I ran 16k yesterday, and played tennis last evening.
My scalp and donor scar feel a bit numb, but the sensation is returning more and more daily. This can stay numb for up to a couple of months.
My son and I are starting a book "A Complete Consumers Guide to Hair Loss for Men and Women" which will include updated information on hair transplants, medical treatment of hair loss, as well as cloning and hair multiplication. It should be available through my site by June or July.
One poster has asked if I could shave the donor to show my scar. I will do this in the summer so everyone can get a good look 5 or 6 months post-op,

Day 8

Hello,
It's hard to believe that it was a week ago today that I was sitting comfortably in the chair having these follicles inserted into my head. Most of the crusts are gone now and I'm anxious to have the stitches out. I think I'll wait till wednesday, I usually suggest to patients 9 or 10 days. The recipient site has been itchy as the last few crusts come off,

day 7

Hello,
I am now 6 days post-op. About 80% of the crusts are off and the donor site is itchy, I'm anxoius to get the stitched out. I will probably have them out Wen. The donor site was closed with 3-0 proline. I think this is better than staples. We used the tricho closure described in my first newsletter. I'll be providing a photo of my scar a few months post-op. I will buzz my hair down to a #2 or #3 so everyone can get a good look.
In my office I am the only one that performs fue. I use assistants to help remove the grafts, But I'm the only person that uses the punch in the extraction process.
I am going to try a 12k run today, along with a yoga for 45 minutes. Again, I'm truly amazed at how little this procedure interferes with my life.

Day 6

Hello again,
I just got back from a 20k run, felt amazing. Hard to believe I'm 5 days post-op. We were out last nite and without mentioning it, no one would have known I had the procedure done. I put toppik on the recipient and a bit of prothick on the donor. About half of my crusts are off already. I am going under the shower about 3 times per day. They will all be gone by monday, a week post-op. Hope to do a 12k tomorrow,
Stay tuned,
Dr.J

Day 5

Hi,
No photo today, it hasn't changed much from yesterday.
I had a great day, ran a 10 k, had lots of spring in my legs. I also did a half hour of stretching. I'm going to try a 20k on the weekend.
I let the shower go directly on my head this morning. We have a rainforest shower with very little pressure so it felt great to feel the water run over the crusts for a few minutes. I'm really excited to see my new hair come in, I can't wait.
A few people have asked why strip and not fue (follicular unit extraction). I already have a scar, it doesn't bother me. I often buzz to a number 3 and you can't see it. As well, I don't have anyone in the office trained to do fue (other than myself), so I would have had to go to another office to get it - I didn't want to do that.
Stay tuned, I'll take some photos for tomorrow,
Dr.J

Day 4

Hello,
I am now 72 hours post-op. I had a good sleep last night, and plan a slow 10 km jog today and a few Yoga stretches. Thanks for the link to Baron Baptiste by the poster, it looks interesting.
I included a photo of the donor scar as requested. This strip was taken from the left side. Four years ago I had one taken from the right, I can hardly find the scar now.
I had about 4 beer last night during poker, and lost $38. The big winner was my buddy Neil, he won over $100!
I'm doing a transplant on a fellow tomorrow that has agreed to be my second blogger, we will have daily photos of his transplant on line. I give a bit of a discount to patients that are willing to post their pics along with comments, so if any of the readers don't mind having their pictures on line, then let me know,

Day 3

I am now 48 hours post-op and have to say that the second day was a little tougher. I had some pain in the donor last evening and took 2 extra strength tylenol at about 6 pm. I watched the Olympics and then watched the Raptors get beat by Memphis, took 2 more tylenol and went to sleep at about 11. I had a great sleep.
I have had several people ask me "who did your transplant". I had a friend cut the donor strip, and had my staff do the rest, including the recipient sites. Several of my staff have been doing hair transplants for 10 or more years and I have complete faith in their skills. I am very fortunate to have an amazing group of people working for me with incredible technical skills and expertise.
I am back in the office today doing one small procedure,
Wish me luck playing poker tonight, I think I'm ready for a couple of beer!

24 hours post-op

Hello,
I had a good nights sleep last nite, we put a long acting anesthetic in before the patient leaves, so he has no pain the first day. I have taken no pain killers, not even tylenol.
The pictures show that the procedure is getting more difficult to detect, even this soon post-op.
I am doing the Big Sur Marathon on April 30th (my 5th marathon), so I hope to resume training today with a 10 km walk. I won't be able to resume my running until the weekend. I also do Yoga, and did some yoga stretches last night, all in an upright position, and will try to continue this every day till early next week when I will start the inverted postures.
I resumed sexual activity this morning at 6 am! I haven't turned it down in 29 years of marriage so I wasn't going to start today.
I am in the office today seeing patients, no procedures, just consultations. I will start doing procedures again tomorrow,
I will update at 48 hours,
Dr. Robert Jones

Dr. Jones hair transplant, day 1

Hello, I just have finished my second transplant. I did a 1200 graft strip, enough to fill in my temporal angles and add some density in behind my fontal forlock. I am amazed how easy this procedure is. I had little or no pain, and will be back in the office tomorrow seeing patients. On Wed, 2 days post-op, I am playing poker with some friends,(I'm sure I'll take some teasing!) and on friday evening my wife and I are out to a dinner party. I'll be able to cover up the crusts by then with a bit of toppick. Please feel free to come by the office and see the results for yourself, or follow my progress on line. I will update with pictures daily, Dr. Robert Jones
