Question: I had a bump on my scalp for years and I recently had it removed. Now I`ve got a scar and hair won`t grow on it. Is it possible to regrow hair on a scar? 

Answer: Scars can be effectively transplanted. The hair that grows is the hair that was moved, not the original hair that was there before. I am in the midst of research on this subject. Answer: Yes, definetly. Hair Loss and rickets are both symptoms of Vitamen D deficiency. You could consider taking this vitamen if you have hair loss by natural causes, although a gentics is the most common cause of hair loss.

Answer: `Studies are on-going. The truth is that stress is a contributor to hair loss, and the way you treat your body, be it how much you drink or how you eat, contributes to the stress inflicted on your body. To what extent these things effect your hair is hard to say exactly, but below is what i think. I will also include a section on nutrition in my next news letter.

4. high salt diet - I would doubt it.

8. over intake of certain vitamins - yes

Question: “I am 36 yrs old and am considering getting a Hair Transplant. I need a little in the front and some on top. What are the risks of shock loss in males over 30? Also, why do some men who receive less grafts in a transplant appear to have fuller hair than some who receive more grafts?”

Answer: “Risks of shock loss following hair transplantation occurs in young men, but Propecia/finasteride will help prevent it.

As for your second question. A fine hair may have 1/4 of the bulk of a coarse hair, so a transplant in a coarse haired person will be fuller than on a fine haired person, if the same number of grafts are used. A good character wavy hair will cover better than a straight hair. A kinky hair will have even better coverage. Also, the difference between the color of the hair and the scalp (contrast) has a lot do to with the result of a transplant. And finally the skill of the surgeon is very important to the aesthetic outcome of the transplant. I always recomend that people be meticulous in the research of a doctor hey are considering. Demand to see photos of past work they have done, and even go so far as trying to contact patients who have had transplants by the doctor you are considering. There are many doctors performing transplants with little experience. You will be amazed at how much more effective a skilled doctor is at creating a full looking hairline.”

Question: My husband and I have been using Rogaine 5% for about 5 yrs now. If we are thinking about having a child, when do I need to stop using Rogaine? And what about my husband?

Answer: Your husband does not have to stop taking Rogaine (minoxidil), it should not effect the pregnancy in any way. As for you, that is a conversation you should have with your obstetrician. Question: ‘I am a 62 yr old male and my hair has been receding for some time. I had a heart attack recently and my hair loss has accelerated since that trauma. So thus my question, Does trauma such as a heart attack increase hair loss and, if so, what can be done to fight the hair loss?’

Answer: ‘Of the causes of hair loss in men Genetic inheritance and male hormones are the two most important (time and stress arethe other significant causes). Genetic hair loss occurs before the individual reaches 35 years of age, and it usually slows down with time. Beginning to lose hair after the age of 45 does occur, but these are very rare cases.

 Your heart attack caused stress and, along with alate genetic expression was probably the cause of your hair loss. I have seen this occur in genetically prone men with various stress inducers, be it illness or divorce.

I would probably recommend that you start on the drug Propecia, because continued hair loss is possible. Propecia may slow or stop the hair loss and it might even reverse it. THe drug works differently with every individual. If it does not do the trick, then a hair transplant would be the next option. Answer: “To determine if the hair will grow back depends on how much skin you lost(if any). If you lost a full thickness of skin (down to the fat) in a reasonable sized area, then the hair will not grow in that area. If you had it sutured back together or allowed it to heal edge to edge, then hair regrowth probably will occur provided that there was no gap left open.
