Question: “What is the reason for bald head in middle? I am a 25 yrs old. female. I am taking mintop and rudimin treatement. What is your opinion of this treatement is good? Should I continue with it?”

Answer: “Females typically thin in an area on the middle and top of the head. Since medical problems are often related to female pattern hair loss, you should visit your doctor to have a complete check up and blood work to rule these out. The only real treatment besides hair transplant is minoxidil.

Good luck,
Dr. Robert Jones”

Question: “I have been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata as well as some unexplained allergies. It has been difficult to feel certain that stress is the cause of my hair loss. I’m concerned there may be another cause for the hair loss that has been overlooked. I have had a blood test for thyroid problems and nothing has turned up. What other test can be taken to rule out other health concerns? I had shingles, tinea versicolor, exercise induced anaphalaxis, and had a twinrix shot, as well as other allergies.

During the past 2 to three years I have had a number of immune issues come up and would like to rule out other possibilities.

Just saw a show called the “Doctors” regarding hair loss and one concern mentioned was a tumor in the pituatary gland that is over producing a hormone that is causing hair loss. I’m just concerned that my hair loss is from strain on my immune system .
Do you know anything of this machine called
revage 670 and its hair regrowth?”

Answer: “There are many medical causes for hair loss in females. I suggest you download my free ebook from www.drrobertjones.com and read the chapter on female hair loss for a summary of the medical problems causing hair loss in females. Next visit your family doctor and have them ruled out.

I have not heard of revage 670 and I doubt whether it will make any difference to your hair thinning,
good luck, Dr. Robert Jones”

Out of Town Patients

Question: “For out-of-town patients who come to your office for a procedure, what is the post-op routine? Where do they go to have the stitches removed? Also, does the patient require to be on medication (propecia and rogaine) for life after the procedure? Is there other medications required?
Thanks”

Answer: “Out of town patients can leave to go home immediately after the surgery. Most go to their family doctor or walk in clinic to get their stitches removed. All patient take antibiotics and are given a pain killer to take as needed,

I also suggest going on propecia and minoxidil for at least a year after the surgery,

Balding at the Temples

Question:”I have a balding condition on my temples. It’s inherited since my mum and two of her three her sisters have it. I am 34 years old and black. I am very self conscious of it so I wear head scarves many times, Is there a way that this can be reversed or is there something missing in my diet? I would really appretiate any advice you can offer?”

Answer:”Your balding is very unlikely from your diet, more likely hereditary. You can have a hair transplant for this, visit your closest hair restoration surgeon. You can also send me a few photos with your contact attached and I will gladly call you with recommendations,

Dr. Robert Jones”

Low Density Donor Site

Question: I think I have a really low density in my donor site, perhaps too low. What is the lowest donor density a person, who is in their late twenties, have in order to have a successful transplant?

Answer:  I would need to make sure that the person should not have Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia, which would reflect a depleted donor area in a young man (1-2% of the male population). Then, the size of the balding area, where we want to perform the transplant, and the pattern that the balding will take would have to be maintained and be balanced in a well defined master plan. You must always consider the worst possible case scenario when transplanting in younger patients who will most likely continue to lose hair. A good doctor will be able to make a judgment on the value of the donor density.

Lowering my Hairline (female)

November 21, 2008 | Filed Under female hair loss, hair line | No Comments

Question: I’m a 16 year old female. I was born with a high hairline. I’ve saved about $5,000 to get the procedure to lower my hairline and was wondering about how much would it be to take off half an inch to an inch. I also have a widows peak and want to know if it is possible to fix that too. what would be an estimate and could there be any payment plans. I really want to get this done…and soon.

Answer: It costs about $8,000 (icludes all anesthesia and facility charges) for a hairline lowering procedure. The hairline lowering procedure is like a reverse brow lift and this is often the way women get a lower hairline. For the widows peak you would have to have a consultation.

A hair transplant could lower the hairline as well. This is the same procedure performed regularly with men. The fees are based on how much hair is moved (price per graft). I would be happy to review your case confidentially if you send me a photo. Good Luck, Dr. Robert Jones.

Blood Pressure Drugs and Hair Loss

November 21, 2008 | Filed Under drugs, hair loss prevention, what causes hair loss | No Comments

Question: Can you recomend a blood pressure medication that will not cause my hair to fall out. I have been using lisinopril for 6 months and am afraid that my hair is falling out because of it. I was taking metformin but stopped because i heard it too can also cause hair loss. Is this true? Help!

Answer: My advice is for you to review all of the blood pressure medications by searching online. Different drug side effects on hair loss are published and can be found. Your blood pressure control should take a higher priority than hair loss, but searching for the right drugs with a good doctor helping you is a good idea. It is also possible that the drugs are not the cause of your hair loss, but rather you are experiencing hair loss from an acceleration of the genetic process. For this possibility I would recommend seeing a good Hair Doctor, Good Luck, Dr. Robert Jones.

How bald must I be before a transplant?

November 20, 2008 | Filed Under age, drugs, hair line, hair loss prevention, hair transplant | No Comments

Question: I am a 25 year old male, and I think I am a Norwood III Vertex. Most of the balding is at the crown, but now the front is getting thin as well. My father is completely bald, Norwood 6 I guess. I am afraid of ending up with the same head as my Dad. I have been on Rogaine and Propecia since I was 20. They may be slowing down the balding process, but it is still gradually worsening.

At what point should I consider getting a Hair Transplant?

Answer: At the age of 25, you could consider a transplant to restore the corners of your hairline. Most important is a good doctor with who you can develop a plan for the work you will have done over the years. A transplant in the crown loss in someone of your age with your pattern, is most likely a bad decision. Despite your dicomfort, it seems that Propecia has worked relatively well for you. You could put the corners back and expect that Propecia will do a good job to preserve theat hair for your youthful years. Sticking to a well thought plan should help you avoid having the head of your father. I do not usually recommend hair transplants in men under 25, but if you approach the procedure how I have described it, you are an exception to the rule. Good Luck Dr. Robert Jones.
