The Return Of The Beard

There is a crisis in the razor industry. The millennial generation has fallen in love with facial hair, with recent years seeing the beard return to reign supreme as the modern man’s go-to fashion look.

The ‘hipster’ trend is very much at the forefront of today’s male style, with the beard the cornerstone of this much sought after look. With style icons like David Beckham and George Clooney routinely sporting this must have male accessory, this trend doesn’t appear to be going anywhere fast. Growing a full, thick beard is considered by many men, as well as those they wish to attract, to be the ultimate symbol of rugged manliness. Just try to image Colin McGregor without his facial hair!

The Follicularly Challenged

Not every man has the chance to ‘own’ The Beard, though. Some men like the clean shaven look, but the chances are, if you’re reading this blog, that you’re one of the thousands of men that arefollicularly challenged. How many times have you enviously spied at a stranger’s thick beard as they walked past you in the street? Or when you’re in a bar, where the super attractive girl is laughing deliriously at every one of his bad jokes.

Many men now dread the coming of that month before December that ‘used to be called November‘.

You Needn’t Suffer Any Longer

The good news is there’s never been a better time to be born bereft of a facial forest. There’s a reason why beard transplants have been estimated to have tripled in three years. The beard is here to stay and with modern procedures, there’s nothing stopping you from getting to join in the fun, as well. Anyone is a viable candidate for a beard transplant as long as there is still donor hair at the back of the scalp to facilitate.

The Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique is the exact same procedure for those opting to undergo a hair transplant. Hair grows together in tight groups of 2 – 5 hairs, sometimes out of the same exit point, called Follicular Units. This donor hair can be extracted in a strip – known as Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) or Follicular Unit Extraction where the Follicular Units are extracted individually. It is the FUE technique that is used in beard transplants with the only difference being that instead of the donor hair being moved to the scalp, it is transplanted to the facial growth area instead.

Post Surgery – What To Be Aware Of

The patients should be aware that after 2 – 3 weeks, the transplanted hair follicles fall out. But don’t panic, this is meant to happen! The relocation from the back of the scalp to the face can cause the body to experience mild shock. The hair’s papilla will have still have successfully taken to their new home and, once the body has recovered, will grow back permanently over the following 3 to 4 months to give a thicker, natural looking beard.

Look Forward To November Again!
