Watch the video below for a detailed look at each step of a FUE transplant, and a good idea of what you can expect during your own procedure.
Dr. Jones first extracts a few sample grafts from the donor area to get an idea of how deep the implant sites should be, ensuring the most natural looking results possible. He then uses a small handheld punch to make tiny holes where each graft is later inserted. The holes are layered more densely in the front of the scalp where the most coverage is needed for patients with classic male-pattern hair loss.
The next step is harvesting the individual hair grafts from the donor area. This is the most delicate step of the entire transplant, and when it comes to extracting hair grafts, there is no substitute for experience.
As a pioneer in the FUE hair transplant field, Dr. Robert Jones has spent nearly 15 years perfecting his follicular extraction technique and does all extractions at the center himself to protect the quality of each graft. With the help of an assistant he is able to extract 1500-2000 follicular units by hand every hour, making him both more skilled, and more efficient than the robotic FUE machines currently available.
Once the grafts have been taken from the donor area, they are grouped according to the number of hairs in each follicular unit, then each unit is placed in the area that will yield the most natural looking coverage.

Numbing agents are used throughout the procedure, and as you can see the patient is awake and experiences very little discomfort. There are even a variety of television options available if patients get bored or want to catch up on their favorite shows!
Finally the entire transplant area is cleaned and the patient is given some instructions for aftercare. We care about your results, and all patients are given a direct line of contact to Dr. Jones in case of any post-op problems, but this is rarely needed.
This procedure was done in March, so the results are still taking effect. Check back with our website soon for updates on this patient’s progress. We will be sure to post the final results of his FUE hair transplant as soon as they are available.
